Steven Placido

Steven Placido is a 2nd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt under world champion professor Sergio Silva. He established himself as a determined competitor with several medals in notable tournaments. He started learning martial arts as a kid growing up in San Leandro, and Oakland CA. After getting into altercations with other kids for bullying him and his mentally disabled younger brother. In 2000 Steven began his training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under then purple belt Steve Heath, and then Blue belt Nick Diaz in Stockton Ca. On Wednesdays Steven and other team members would travel to Pleasant Hill to train with Black Belt Caesar Gracie. After starting a family and suffering back injuries Steven was not able to consistently train Jiu-Jitsu and was left watching and cheering his former teammates on as they rose to the top of the M.M.A. Ranks. In 2012 Alana Placido, (Stevens 5 year old daughter) came to him after watching the Karate Kid on T.V. And asked to learn martial arts. He jumped at the opportunity to share this passion with his youngest daughter. He came to Professors Silva’s academy and they both started training immediately. Shortly afterwards Steven’s oldest Daughter Raven Placido started training as well. Both girls are currently gray belts, and Alana competes often with “coach daddy” giving instructions from the coaches’ box. Steven started helping as an assistant coach with the kids Jiu-Jitsu program almost immediately, and in 2015 Professor Silva gave him his own class to teach kids. “I love being on the mats with my students. Your giving them a part of yourself and the students who you have a positive impact on will most likely always remember you.” Steven started baseball at age 4 and his father Larry Placido was a baseball coach for over two decades. ” My father was awesome! He coached hundreds of kids and I remember grown men that he coached as kids giving him hugs and saying thanks coach!” “He made such a positive impact on those kids and they never forgot him.” “He unknowingly taught me to give to others and to be a positive impact on my community.”
